PART 1 — THE DAY MY HUSBAND FINALLY CHOSE ME #8

THE DAY MY HUSBAND FINALLY CHOSE ME

PART 1 — THE WEDDING THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The morning of my sister-in-law’s wedding was supposed to be one of the happiest days our family had ever experienced.

The hotel was filled with flowers.

The halls were crowded with relatives.

Everyone was rushing around wearing formal clothes, checking schedules, fixing decorations, and preparing for the ceremony.

My sister-in-law Megan had spent almost a year planning every detail.

And her mother, Linda Whitmore, made one thing very clear from the beginning:

Nothing was allowed to ruin this day.

Not bad weather.

Not unexpected problems.

Not delays.

And definitely not what she called “unnecessary drama.”

For years, I had learned to stay quiet around Linda.

She had a way of making every situation about herself.

If someone disagreed with her, they were disrespectful.

If someone needed help, they were creating problems.

If something went wrong, she immediately searched for someone to blame.

And unfortunately…

I was often her favorite person to blame.

My husband Daniel always tried to keep the peace.

Whenever his mother criticized me, he would tell me:

“Just ignore her.”

“She doesn’t mean it.”

“That’s just how Mom is.”

For a long time, I accepted that answer.

Because I loved him.

Because I knew he loved his family.

And because I believed eventually he would see what I saw.

I just never expected it would happen on a day like this.

————————————————–

That morning started normally.

At least, I thought it did.

I woke up early in our hotel room and prepared for the wedding schedule.

I was supposed to help Megan and the bridesmaids before the ceremony.

Daniel was already dressed in his suit, checking his phone and making sure everything was ready.

“You okay?” he asked.

I smiled.

“Just tired.”

The truth was…

I had started feeling uncomfortable the night before.

A strange pain in my stomach.

At first, I assumed it was stress.

The rehearsal dinner had been exhausting.

Linda had spent most of the evening criticizing small details.

The flowers.

The seating arrangement.

The photographer.

Even the way I helped organize the guests.

By the time we returned to our room, I felt completely drained.

So when the pain started getting worse the next morning, I convinced myself it would pass.

I was wrong.

————————————————–

Around nine o’clock, I tried to get ready.

But the pain became impossible to ignore.

I stood up from the bed.

Then suddenly…

My legs gave out.

Daniel found me on the bathroom floor.

The moment he saw me, his entire expression changed.

The calm, controlled man everyone knew disappeared.

He looked terrified.

“What’s happening?”

I tried to answer.

But I couldn’t.

I was shaking.

My face felt cold.

Daniel immediately grabbed his phone.

“We’re going to the hospital.”

I reached for his hand.

“No…”

“Megan…”

“The wedding…”

His eyes filled with frustration.

Not at me.

At the situation.

“Forget the wedding.”

“You need help.”

I knew he meant it.

But I also knew what it meant.

His sister’s wedding day.

His mother expecting him to be there.

The family photographs.

The responsibilities he had promised to handle.

“I’ll be okay,” I whispered.

But Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“You won’t.”

“Not until a doctor says you are.”

————————————————–

Before we could make it downstairs…

Everything went dark.

The last thing I remember was Daniel calling my name.

Then silence.

————————————————–

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital.

Bright lights.

Medical equipment.

Doctors moving around me.

I had no idea how much time had passed.

A doctor explained that my appendix had ruptured.

The infection had already started spreading.

Emergency surgery was necessary.

Waiting longer could have caused serious complications.

I looked at Daniel.

He was sitting beside me.

Still wearing the suit he planned to wear to the wedding.

His jacket was wrinkled.

His tie was loose.

His hair looked like he had been running his hands through it all day.

He looked exhausted.

But he was there.

“I called Megan,” he said quietly.

I looked at him.

“What did she say?”

“She told me to stay.”

I felt tears forming.

“Really?”

He nodded.

“She said she wanted you to be okay.”

For the first time that day, I felt relief.

Megan understood.

But I already knew someone else probably didn’t.

————————————————–

Daniel’s phone kept lighting up.

Messages from his mother.

At first, he ignored them.

Then he finally answered.

I watched his expression change.

“Mom…”

A pause.

“No.”

“I can’t leave.”

Another pause.

“Because my wife is in the hospital.”

The silence that followed was uncomfortable.

Then Daniel’s face hardened.

“What did you just say?”

He looked at me.

Then looked away.

“I’ll talk to you later.”

He ended the call.

I didn’t ask.

I already knew.

Linda blamed me.

————————————————–

Later that evening, Daniel finally told me what happened.

His mother believed the emergency was exaggerated.

She thought I had somehow created the situation because Megan was receiving attention.

She told Daniel he was choosing me over his family.

She demanded he return to the wedding.

When he refused…

She stopped answering his calls.

I couldn’t believe it.

“She really thinks I did this on purpose?”

Daniel looked down.

“I know it sounds crazy.”

“It is crazy.”

For once…

He didn’t defend her.

————————————————–

The surgery took almost two hours.

Afterward, I was weak and exhausted.

Every movement hurt.

Daniel stayed beside me the entire time.

He held my hand.

He answered every nurse’s question.

He never left.

Then, shortly after seven that evening…

The hospital room door opened.

I expected a nurse.

Maybe a doctor.

Instead…

Linda walked in.

Still wearing her silver mother-of-the-bride dress.

Her makeup was slightly faded.

But her anger was completely visible.

She looked at me.

Not with concern.

With disappointment.

Then she spoke the words I would never forget.

“You ruined everything.”
